Tracking Arctic Tern Migration

Interviewer: Good afternoon, Dr. Samuels. Could you tell us about your recent research on the migration patterns of birds?
Dr. Samuels: Good afternoon! Certainly. This year, we focused particularly on the migration of the Arctic Tern. These birds travel an impressive 70,000 kilometers each year, making them known for having the longest migration of any bird species.
Interviewer: That’s fascinating! What are some of the challenges they face during migration?
Dr. Samuels: One significant challenge is climate change. It alters their feeding grounds and affects their breeding success. Additionally, habitat loss due to human development also poses a serious threat to their survival.
Interviewer: How do you track their movement?
Dr. Samuels: We use satellite tracking devices that we attach to the birds. These devices allow us to monitor their migration routes in real-time, providing valuable data on their travel patterns and behaviors.
