Decision-Making Under Uncertainty

During the summer, many people flock to the beach for relaxation and fun. On one particularly hot day, the beach was packed with families building sandcastles, teenagers playing beach volleyball, and couples strolling hand-in-hand along the shore. As the sun began to set, a group of friends decided to start a bonfire to enjoy the cool evening breeze. They gathered sticks and stones, and one member of the group proposed they roast marshmallows while telling stories. As they sat around the fire, laughter and the smell of toasted marshmallows filled the air, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Later that night, a sudden rush of wind blew in, and the friends noticed that the sky had turned cloudy. They quickly debated whether to stay at the beach or head back home. One of them suggested that the clouds didn’t look too threatening, while another pointed out that it might be wise to leave before the storm arrived. After some discussion, they eventually decided to leave early, just in case.
