The following is an excerpt from a memoir:
Growing up in a small town, I often felt like the odd one out. While my classmates chatted about weekend sports games, I spent my afternoons lost in books. Books provided me with worlds where I could escape and explore. My friends struggled to understand my fascination; they believed that living in the real world was far more important.
However, during a school project where we had to present on our favorite author, something changed. I stood in front of my classmates, sharing stories about my favorite characters and the way they shaped my understanding of life. To my surprise, a few students approached me afterward, eager to discuss the themes I had presented.
