Irony in Satirical Celebration

Read the following excerpt from a satirical novel:

"At the annual festival of the Extraordinary Good Deeds Society, they celebrated the miraculous achievements of their best members—most of whom, ironically, had never actually performed a good deed in their lives. The head of the society, a man named VirtueMcGee, stood proudly to announce the winners, boasting about their charitable contributions. 'Through sheer luck and great connections,' he proclaimed, 'our society exemplifies the true spirit of altruism!' Meanwhile, the crowd clapped enthusiastically, oblivious to the hypocrisy festering beneath the surface."
