During a recent panel discussion on the impact of social media on mental health, a psychologist presented research showing that excessive use of social media is linked to increased levels of anxiety and depression among teenagers. Based on these findings, the psychologist recommended limiting social media use among adolescents to foster better mental well-being.
However, a member of the audience challenged this recommendation by highlighting that many teenagers report social media as a source of social connection, which they argue can be beneficial for mental health. This prompted the psychologist to reassess whether limiting social media is indeed the best approach for all teenagers.
