Understanding the Purpose of Conversation

Very Easy Pragmatic Understanding Purpose Of Speech

Listen to the following conversation between a student and a library assistant.

Student: Hi! I was wondering if you could help me find some books for my research paper.

Assistant: Of course! What topic is your paper on?

Student: It’s about climate change and its effects on agriculture.

Assistant: Great topic! We have several resources that can help you with that. Would you like some peer-reviewed articles, or are you looking for books specifically?

Student: I think both would be helpful, but I need the books more urgently.

Assistant: No problem! Follow me to the agriculture section; I can show you some titles that will be perfect for your paper.

Student: Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help.

Assistant: You’re welcome! If you need anything else, just let me know.

Note: This question has been adapted from its original format to accommodate a reading-based version. In the official TOEFL exam, speaking and listening sections require verbal responses and audio prompts, which are not represented here. Please note that this adaptation may not fully reflect the nature or difficulty of the official exam. The audio feature for these sections will be available soon.
