GRE 2025 Structure

In September 2023, the GRE underwent significant changes to streamline the testing experience. The current format, applicable in 2025, consists of:

Analytical Writing: 1 task, 30 minutes
Verbal Reasoning: 2 sections
- Section 1: 12 questions, 18 minutes
- Section 2: 15 questions, 23 minutes
Quantitative Reasoning: 2 sections
- Section 1: 12 questions, 21 minutes
- Section 2: 15 questions, 26 minutes

The total testing time is approximately 1 hour and 58 minutes.

Key Changes in the GRE

Reduced Exam Time: The test duration has been shortened to 1 hour and 58 minutes, down from the previous 3 hours and 45 minutes.
Elimination of the "Analyze an Argument" Task: The Analytical Writing section now includes only the "Analyze an Issue" task.
Removal of Unscored and Research Sections: All sections now contribute to the final score.
Faster Score Reporting: Official GRE scores are now delivered within 8–10 days.
